Diabetes is on the rise worldwide, including South Africa. The percentage of the South African population suffering from diabetes varies according to demographic and geographic groups.
Type 2 Diabetes is termed “The Silent Killer”. In 2001, the number of deaths caused by Type 2 Diabetes stood at 16,207 and today it is one of the top 10 causes of death.
